Our self-paced Engineering Expectations Academy focuses on getting your teen experience in engineering by teaching them how engineers solve problems. We believe learning happens best through participation and engagement, so throughout the program, your teen will apply the concepts they learn towards solving a real-life engineering problem! So by the end of the program, your teen will feel confident and excited about majoring in engineering.
The course begins with exploring the design process and understanding the importance of each step.
Next, the students will use the design process in an engineering challenge competition. This will help them understand what engineers actually do.
Finally, put it all together by assessing the skills used during each phase of the design process, to gain insight into the actual skills needed in engineering.
Engineering has been a rewarding career path for me. Upon graduating from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) with a mechanical engineering degree, I landed my dream job working as a Research & Development (R&D) engineer at Boston Scientific- a global, multi-billion dollar medical device company. I excelled in the workforce, earning a six-figure salary in just three years with many promotions in between.
But my journey did not start out that great...
In high school, I was told by a guidance counselor I would never make it as an engineer and I should go into social services instead. I doubted I was smart enough and "handy" enough. My high school did not prepare me at all for college, making freshman year my most challenging of the four. Through hard work and perseverance, I graduated with honors, obtained three internships, and a high-paying job offer upon graduation.
This is why I started Engineering Expectations Academy!
It helps students avoid the struggles I went through by providing them with the skills and tools engineers use, in an effort to gain insight into what this career is all about. This way, they can make the best decision for their future.
In the Aspiring Engineer's Deluxe Pack, you will get two amazing resources, our Engineering Major Exploration Database and Engineering Expectations Academy!
